I wasn’t keen about films until I realised I enjoyed acting, says VJ-actor turned musician Anusha DandekarOn a musical note I have been working with a music channel for ages and realised I never really took off on a holiday. So, I zipped off to Rome, London and New York. On my trip to New York, I was with a group of friends at the Hamptons, and we were singing “Tick Tock”, and one of them told me that I should sing for a living.
I laughed it off then, but later got a call from my friend Ann saying Joshua Zieman was looking for the next pop star and that she had told him about me. Josh became my manager later. I’ve been travelling, recording a lot, trying to find my sound, what I like to write about, sing about and realised it was all so much fun. My music is very naughty, cheeky, poppy and upbeat. I can’t sing sad songs about heartbreak to save my life. I get inspired by
Justin Timberlake,
Mariah Carey,
Shakira,
Britney Spears and Rihanna. I think Enrique is super hot too.
Love, life and breakups I am single and I have a feeling that after people listen to my songs, I am going to remain single for a while. I am a strong believer in friendship, and happen to be friends with all my exes as well.
Movies and more The funny thing is I was never too keen about films, but once I acted in a few of them, I realised that I was actually enjoying myself. I haven’t got any other film right now, as I’ve turned to singing and music, but I am open to reading scripts. However, I just debuted in a Marathi film recently. Apart from VJing, acting and singing, I have a dream of launching my own fashion line. So, I am pretty excited about that as well. It’ll be something very cheeky, girlie and naughty.
Sister act Major comprises of Shibani, Apeksha and me, but since we’ve been busy with our own lives, the band has taken a back seat. Shibani was caught up with the T-20 tournaments and Apeksha is on a music show. However, we’re all still connected with work, as we work for the same network. They have also made small appearances for my video. I’d love to jam with them again because they inspire me. Apeksha can sing like Mariah Carey, so I have my own jukebox.
